Aftercare Instructions
Proper aftercare is the difference between results that last a full cycle and ones that fade or shed early. Find your service below and follow the guidance for it, and reach out any time with questions at hello@lashconcierge.com.
Lash Extension Aftercare
Beautiful retention starts with proper aftercare. Following these guidelines will help keep your lashes clean, fluffy, comfortable, and lasting as long as possible.
1. Wash Your Lashes Every Day
Daily cleansing is the most important part of lash extension maintenance.
Natural oils (sebum), sweat, skincare products, makeup, sunscreen, and environmental debris build up along the lash line every day. If not properly removed, this buildup can affect retention, cause irritation, and create an unhealthy environment for your natural lashes.
Important — these are NOT substitutes for a lash cleanser:
- ✦Face wash
- ✦Makeup remover
- ✦Micellar water
- ✦Water alone
Sebum (your skin's natural oil) is not fully water-soluble, which means simply rinsing with water will not adequately clean the lash line.
How to Wash Your Lashes
- Dispense 1 pump of foaming lash cleanser onto your pointer and middle fingers, then distribute it across the fingers of both hands.
- Apply the lash cleanser from the eyelid down to the lash line.
- Using your fingertips or a snag-free, lint-free lash cleansing brush, gently cleanse using up-and-down motions (avoid circular scrubbing motions or rubbing back and forth).
- Rinse extremely thoroughly until all cleanser has been removed.
- Gently pat dry and brush lashes into place.
Leaving cleanser behind can create residue on the lash line, causing extensions to feel stiff, appear less fluffy, and potentially affect retention.
2. Avoid Excessive Heat & Steam
Frequent exposure to excessive heat and steam can shorten the lifespan of your lash extensions. Try to limit:
- ✦Saunas
- ✦Steam rooms
- ✦Hot yoga
- ✦Steam facials
- ✦Prolonged exposure to very hot showers
Excessive heat may soften the adhesive over time, causing extensions to loosen more quickly. High heat can potentially singe the synthetic fibers, leaving them looking frizzy (grills, ovens, bonfires).
3. Brush Your Lashes Daily
Brush your lashes once per day using a clean spoolie brush. This helps:
- ✦Keep lashes separated
- ✦Maintain a fluffy appearance
- ✦Prevent twisting or crossing
- ✦Keep your lash style looking neat between appointments
Always brush gently, starting from the middle of the lashes toward the tips.
4. Never Pick, Pull, or Rub Your Lashes
Avoid:
- ✦Picking at extensions
- ✦Pulling on extensions
- ✦Rubbing your eyes
- ✦Twisting or playing with your lashes
Picking or rubbing can damage your natural lashes, create premature shedding, and lead to gaps in your lash line. Treat your extensions gently and allow them to shed naturally with your lash growth cycle.
Fill Appointment Recommendations
To keep your lashes looking their best, schedule regular maintenance appointments every 2–4 weeks. Waiting too long between fills may result in excessive outgrowth and reduced retention, often requiring additional time or a full set to restore the desired look.
Korean Lash Lift Aftercare
The Day of Your Lash Lift
For the best results, please follow these guidelines after your appointment:
- ✦Avoid getting your lashes wet for the first 4 hours.
- ✦Skip mascara for the remainder of the day.
- ✦Try not to sleep directly on your face the first night.
- ✦Throughout the day (and before bed), check that your lashes are not bent, twisted, or pressed out of shape.
- ✦Avoid excessive heat and steam for the next 48–72 hours, including: saunas, hot yoga, steam facials, hot tubs.
Daily Care & Maintenance
- ✦Once healed, mascara and strip lashes may be worn if desired.
- ✦When removing makeup, be gentle. Use up-and-down motions rather than rubbing side-to-side.
- ✦Friction is the leading cause of lash breakage. Avoid rubbing your eyes whenever possible.
- ✦Side sleepers and stomach sleepers may occasionally wake up with lashes that appear slightly crimped or out of place (similar to bedhead). Simply rinse your face and lashes in the morning and brush them back into place with a clean spoolie.
- ✦Moisturizing your lashes after a lash lift is highly recommended to help maintain flexibility and minimize breakage.
Recommended Lash Conditioning Products
For optimal lash health, use either a coating essence or a silk protein treatment.
Silk Protein Treatment — think of this as a leave-in conditioner for your natural lashes. Apply nightly until the tube is finished. Once completed, transition to a hydrating essence for ongoing maintenance.
Coating Essence — think of this as a lightweight protective treatment, similar to a hair serum. Helps hydrate lashes, improve flexibility, and reduce breakage. Apply each morning.
When Should I Schedule My Next Lash Lift?
Most clients should wait 8–10 weeks before their next lash lift. Ideally, approximately 80% of the lifted lashes should have grown out before lifting again. Following this timeline helps prevent overprocessing and keeps your natural lashes healthy.
Remember: a lash lift does not "fall out" like lash extensions — it simply grows out with your natural lash cycle. Around the 4–6 week mark, you may notice an in-between stage where some lashes remain lifted while newer growth appears straighter. This is completely normal and part of the natural grow-out process.
Henna Brow Aftercare
Proper aftercare will help maximize the longevity of your henna stain while keeping your brows looking fresh and defined for as long as possible.
The First 24 Hours
The first day is the most important for setting the stain. For the first 24 hours, please avoid:
- ✦Getting the brow area wet
- ✦Excessive sweating
- ✦Swimming pools, ocean water, or hot tubs
- ✦Steam rooms and saunas
- ✦Touching, rubbing, or scratching the brows
Keeping the area dry during this period helps ensure the richest, longest-lasting stain possible.
Products & Treatments to Avoid
Henna gradually fades through normal skin cell turnover. Anything that accelerates exfoliation will cause the stain to fade more quickly. Avoid using the following directly on or around the brow area:
- ✦Retinol and retinoids
- ✦Exfoliating acids (AHA, BHA, glycolic acid, lactic acid, salicylic acid)
- ✦Facial scrubs
- ✦Chemical peels
- ✦Dermaplaning
- ✦Microdermabrasion
- ✦Facial waxing near the brows
Frequent facials and aggressive skincare treatments will significantly reduce the lifespan of the henna stain.
Daily Care & Maintenance
- ✦Avoid excessive rubbing or cleansing of the brow area.
- ✦When washing your face, be mindful of the brows and avoid scrubbing them.
- ✦Apply skincare products carefully around the brows whenever possible.
- ✦Daily SPF is recommended, as sun exposure can contribute to premature fading.
- ✦Oily skin types may experience shorter stain retention than normal or dry skin types.
Understanding Henna Retention
Henna colors both the skin and the brow hairs. The skin stain typically fades first, while the brow hairs often retain color for a longer period of time. Henna is designed to create a soft cosmetic stain on the skin — not a tattoo effect. Gradual fading is normal and expected.
Retention varies from person to person based on: skin type, skincare routine, sun exposure, lifestyle factors, frequency of exfoliation. Because everyone's skin is different, results and longevity will vary.
When Should I Schedule My Next Appointment?
Most clients return every 4–6 weeks to maintain their shape and color. Regular maintenance appointments help keep the brows looking consistently defined and polished.
Brow Tint Aftercare
Proper aftercare will help maximize the longevity of your brow tint while keeping your brows looking fresh and defined.
The First 24 Hours
For the first 24 hours after your appointment, please avoid:
- ✦Getting the brow area wet
- ✦Excessive sweating
- ✦Swimming pools, ocean water, or hot tubs
- ✦Steam rooms and saunas
- ✦Touching, rubbing, or scratching the brows
Keeping the brows dry during this period allows the tint to fully settle into the hair for optimal longevity.
Products & Treatments to Avoid
Tint gradually fades through cleansing, sun exposure, and normal wear. To help preserve your results, avoid excessive use of the following around the brow area:
- ✦Retinol and retinoids
- ✦Exfoliating acids (AHA, BHA, glycolic acid, lactic acid, salicylic acid)
- ✦Facial scrubs
- ✦Chemical peels
- ✦Dermaplaning
- ✦Microdermabrasion
- ✦Facial waxing near the brows
Frequent facials and aggressive skincare treatments may cause the tint to fade more quickly.
Daily Care & Maintenance
- ✦Avoid rubbing or scrubbing the brow area.
- ✦Be mindful when cleansing your face and applying skincare products.
- ✦Daily SPF is recommended, as UV exposure can contribute to premature fading.
- ✦Oily skin types may notice quicker fading on the skin than those with normal or dry skin.
Understanding Brow Tint Retention
Brow tint is designed primarily to color the brow hairs. Immediately after your appointment, you may notice that the tint appears darker or more defined than expected. This is completely normal.
Because brow tint is formulated to color hair, not skin, you may see a temporary stain on the skin for the first day or two. As you wash your face and your skin naturally exfoliates, this surface stain will gradually fade. The skin stain is temporary and expected to fade quickly. The true result is the color that remains on the brow hairs.
Most clients can expect:
- ✦Skin stain: approximately 1–3 days
- ✦Brow hair tint: approximately 4–14 days
Retention varies based on: skin type, skincare routine, sun exposure, frequency of cleansing, lifestyle factors. Because everyone's skin and hair are different, results and longevity will vary.
When Should I Schedule My Next Appointment?
Most clients return every 3–6 weeks to maintain their brow color and shape. Regular maintenance appointments help keep the brows looking polished, defined, and consistent year-round.
Brow Waxing Aftercare
Proper aftercare helps minimize irritation, protect the skin, and ensure the best results following your brow waxing service.
Immediately After Your Appointment
It is normal to experience mild redness, sensitivity, or slight warmth in the waxed area immediately after your service. This typically subsides within a few hours. To help the skin recover properly:
- ✦Avoid touching or rubbing the brow area.
- ✦Avoid applying makeup directly over the waxed skin for 24 hours whenever possible.
- ✦Keep the area clean and avoid picking at the skin.
Avoid Heat & Excessive Sweating
For the first 24 hours, avoid: saunas, steam rooms, hot yoga, intense exercise, excessive sweating, very hot showers. Freshly waxed skin is more sensitive and may become irritated when exposed to excessive heat.
Protect Your Skin from the Sun
Freshly waxed skin is more vulnerable to sun exposure. For the first 72 hours:
- ✦Avoid prolonged direct sun exposure.
- ✦Wear a hat or sunglasses when outdoors.
- ✦Apply SPF daily once the skin is no longer sensitive.
Sun exposure too soon after waxing may increase the risk of irritation, sensitivity, and hyperpigmentation.
Avoid Active Skincare Products
Waxing removes hair along with a thin layer of dead skin cells, making the area temporarily more sensitive. For 2–3 days after your appointment, avoid applying the following directly around the brows:
- ✦Retinol and retinoids
- ✦Tretinoin
- ✦Glycolic acid
- ✦Salicylic acid
- ✦Lactic acid
- ✦Chemical exfoliants
- ✦Facial scrubs
- ✦Benzoyl peroxide
Using these products too soon after waxing may cause irritation or chemical burns.
Facials & Other Skin Treatments
Please allow at least 72 hours between brow waxing and any facial or exfoliating skin treatment. This includes: facials, chemical peels, dermaplaning, microdermabrasion, laser treatments. Scheduling these services too close together can over-exfoliate the skin and may result in significant irritation or chemical burns.
When Should I Schedule My Next Appointment?
Most clients return every 3–6 weeks to maintain their brow shape. Regular maintenance appointments help keep the brows looking clean, balanced, and well-defined.
