What is the actual difference?
Brow tint is a semi-permanent dye that primarily colors the brow hairs. Henna is a plant-based stain that colors the hairs and stains the skin underneath them. That skin stain is what fills visual gaps and makes sparse brows read as full.
Which one lasts longer?
It depends which part you mean. On the hairs, both last a comparable few weeks. On the skin, henna holds for days to a couple of weeks depending entirely on your skin type - and that skin stain is the whole reason to choose henna.
Why does my skin type matter so much?
Oily skin sheds the stain faster. Dry or porous skin grips it and holds longer, sometimes noticeably longer. This is why two people can get the same service on the same day and report completely different results, and neither of them is wrong.
What makes henna fade early?
- Getting the brows wet in the first 24 hours - this is the big one
- Exfoliants, glycolic acid, and retinol anywhere near the brow
- Facial oils, heavy moisturizers, and perfume
- Self-tanner
- Sun exposure and swimming
Which should I choose?
If your brows have gaps, thin patches, or a shape you want to visually extend, choose henna - the skin stain does work that tint cannot. If your brow hairs are dense and you just want them darker and more defined, tint is the cleaner choice and there is no 24-hour dry rule to observe.
How far ahead of an event should I book?
Three to five days for henna. The stain is at its darkest immediately and settles into its true tone over the following 24 to 48 hours, so what you see the morning of the event is what shows up in photographs. Day-of is the one thing not to do.
Can I combine it with waxing?
Yes, and shaping first makes the color sit better. One caution: retinol, Accutane, exfoliants, and some medications increase skin sensitivity and raise the risk of lifting during waxing. Disclose them - it changes how the service is done, not whether you can have it.
Can I have a reaction?
Yes. An allergic reaction to henna, plant-based dyes, or tint can occur at any time, including if you have had the service before without issue. Known allergies to dyes or plant products should be raised at booking.
